The Last Wedding

As I reflect on my final wedding, a wave of nostalgia washes over me.

This journey has been filled with remarkable moments that are forever etched in my heart. Each wedding represents a unique love story, brought to life through the thoughtful details curated by each couple. The joy infused into every element of the day showcases their personalities and dreams.

I will miss witnessing the emotional exchanges, like the moment a father sees his daughter in her wedding gown for the first time—a moment where time stands still, filled with both pride and tears

I’ll miss the highly anticipated first look between a bride and groom, it is a moment filled with raw emotion and unfiltered joy. I’ll miss the moments where time seems to stand still—those intimate exchanges that reflect their journey, commitment, and the promise of forever.

I’ll miss the atmosphere filled with anticipation as vows are exchanged, sealing a promise of forever…and of course the first kiss that solidifies the commitment.

I’ll miss the magical moments when I steal away the bride and groom from the crowd. I’ll miss the tender moments where the couple can breathe, relax, and connect with each other amidst the joyful chaos. I’ll miss those intimate instances, away from the hustle, where I always captured the genuine emotions and quiet glances that define their love story.

I'll miss the gentle sway of the couple’s first dance, surrounded by friends and family, showcasing their love and connection.

I’ll miss the energy of a wedding reception, it’s truly like no other. I’ll miss the laughter, the dancing, and the unexpected moments that create memories of a lifetime. From the spontaneous conga lines to the heartfelt toasts that catch everyone by surprise, these are the moments that fill the air with joy and connection. I’ll miss capturing the celebration that becomes a tapestry of shared emotions and unforgettable experiences. I'll miss capturing the essence of those vibrant events, where every smile and every surprise adds a unique layer to the love story being told.

As this chapter comes to a close, I reflect on the honor of being part of so many couples' journeys. I'm profoundly grateful for the trust placed in me to capture these fleeting moments that will be cherished for a lifetime. Thank you to all the couples who allowed me to be part of their special day; your stories will always hold a special place in my heart.

5 tips for finding your perfect newborn photographer

5 tips to help you find the perfect newborn photographer

5 Tips for finding your perfect newborn photographer

When seeking a professional photographer, it's essential to consider several key factors to ensure you're making the right choice. Here are some crucial points to look for in a professional photographer:

1. Style

When searching for a newborn photographer, it's crucial to find an artist whose style aligns with the look you desire for your newborn's portraits. Consider a photographer whose portfolio reflects the aesthetic you envision for your baby's photos - whether it's bright and airy, moody and artistic, or somewhere in between.
Additionally, pay attention to the photographer's prop and color usage. If you prefer minimalistic and natural setups, seek a photographer who shares this preference. On the other hand, if you are drawn to vibrant colors and creative props, look for a photographer whose portfolio showcases these elements.
The details in posing are equally vital. Some photographers specialize in posed newborn photography, capturing delicate and intricate poses, while others focus on lifestyle photography, portraying newborns in more natural and candid settings. Choose a photographer who excels in the type of posing that resonates with your vision.
Ultimately, finding a newborn photographer whose style, prop/color usage, and posing techniques align with your preferences will ensure that your baby's portraits beautifully reflect your unique aesthetic and vision.

2. Published Website or Work
A professional photographer should have a well-maintained, published website showcasing their portfolio and demonstrating their style, versatility, and expertise. Look for consistency in the quality of their work across various projects and genres. A photographer's website is a reflection of their professionalism and dedication to their craft.

3. Recommendations
Seek recommendations from friends, family, or colleagues who have worked with the photographer in question. Additionally, read client reviews or testimonials on the photographer's website or social media platforms. Positive feedback and word-of-mouth recommendations can provide valuable insights into the photographer's reliability, communication skills, and ability to deliver exceptional results.

4. Background and Education
Inquire about the photographer's background and education to gauge their level of training and experience. A professional photographer should have a solid foundation in photography, whether through formal education, apprenticeships, or extensive hands-on experience. Understanding their background can give you confidence in their ability to handle various shooting conditions and scenarios.
Choosing a professional photographer is a significant decision that can greatly impact the outcome of your photographic needs. By considering the photographer's published work, recommendations, and background and education, you can make an informed decision and select a photographer who aligns with your vision and expectations.

5. Find a Photographer Who Prioritizes Safety

When searching for a photographer who uses safe posing and wrapping techniques, it's crucial to prioritize the well-being of the subjects, particularly when working with newborns and infants. Look for a photographer with a proven track record of implementing safe and secure posing methods that prioritize the comfort and safety of the baby. During initial consultations, inquire about the photographer's approach to wrapping and posing infants. Ensure that they communicate their prioritization of safety and comfort throughout the session.
Inquire about the photographer's experience in handling newborns and their specific protocols for posing and wrapping to maintain a safe environment.
Prioritizing safety when selecting a photographer is essential, especially when dealing with delicate subjects such as newborns. By thoroughly researching and vetting potential photographers, you can ensure that your chosen professional employs safe posing and wrapping techniques to capture beautiful and secure images.

Capture the Magic of Newborns: Schedule your Session at an Early Age
At Abby Nelson Photography, we understand that time seems to fly by when you have a newborn. That's why we believe it is crucial to schedule your newborn session at such an early age. By capturing those precious moments when they are tiny, we can freeze those fleeting details that change so quickly.
Babies change at an astonishing pace during their first few weeks of life. Their delicate features, the softness of their skin, their adorable little fingers and toes – all of these precious details can transform in the blink of an eye. By scheduling a newborn session early on, you ensure that you capture these moments of pure magic and preserve them forever.
Moreover, newborns are generally easier to pose when they are freshly arrived. During the first two weeks of life, babies are still acclimating to the outside world and spend most of their time sleeping. This sleepiness makes it much easier for us to gently position them into those heart-melting poses you often see in newborn portraits. Capturing those precious poses becomes more challenging as babies grow and become more alert, making it all the more important to schedule your session when they are at their tiniest.
By choosing to schedule your newborn session early, you are investing in a timeless keepsake that will bring you joy for years to come. Imagine looking back on those photographs when your child is all grown up, reliving those early moments filled with innocence and wonder. It's a beautiful way to reminisce about those fleeting days that pass by in the blink of an eye.

We are experienced and highly skilled in working with newborns. At Abby Nelson Photography, we create a relaxed and safe environment for both baby and parents. The Value of Displaying and Enjoying Photographs

The Value of Displaying and Enjoying Photographs

As a dedicated photographer, I understand and share your passion for the art of capturing moments. It is undeniable that photography is a powerful medium that goes beyond a mere click of a button. It immortalizes emotions, preserves memories, and tells stories that deserve to be cherished and celebrated.

In this digital age, offering digital-only collections has become a common practice. However, some may argue that this practice can be seen as a disservice to the true essence of photography. But is it too harsh to make such a statement?
Presenting images solely in a digital format can indeed limit the experience and potential impact of the artwork. Images displayed only on screens are transient, easily forgotten, and sometimes overlooked with a simple swipe or scroll. They often receive only a quick "thumbs up" or "heart" before being buried under a flurry of other digital content.

Photographs hold immense emotional value and significance. They have the ability to evoke emotions, trigger memories, and transport us back to cherished moments. By relegating them solely to digital platforms, we fail to fully appreciate and honor the emotions captured within these images.
Photographs deserve to be more than pixels on a screen. They deserve to be displayed prominently, admired, and enjoyed every single day. Printing and displaying your images transform them into tangible pieces of art, elevating their presence and impact in our lives. Whether it's a wall gallery in your home, an album on a coffee table, or a framed photograph in your office, physical prints serve as constant reminders of the cherished moments you have captured.
Furthermore, physical prints offer a unique and tangible connection to the art form. Through different printing techniques, papers, and materials, the details, textures, and colors of the photograph come to life, enhancing the viewer's emotional connection. The act of holding a physical print in your hands and immersing yourself in its beauty evokes a more profound appreciation than simply swiping through a gallery on a screen.

Of course, the world of digital photography has provided immense convenience and accessibility. It has allowed us to share and distribute our work quickly, at the touch of a button.
While digital images have their place in the digital era we live in, it is essential not to neglect the value of displaying and enjoying photographs in physical form. Let us remember that photographs hold the power to evoke emotion, tell stories, and create lasting memories. By allowing our images to exist beyond the digital realm, we elevate their worth, ensuring they are cherished and appreciated by both ourselves and future generations.
Let us fully honor and immerse ourselves in the art of photography and celebrate the beauty of physical prints and embrace the joy they bring to our daily lives.

Designing Beautiful Wall Displays

Your photographs are meant to be displayed and treasured. We work closely with each client to create custom wall displays that showcase the essence of your cherished memories. From elegant gallery walls to striking collages, we have the expertise to bring your vision to life. Our commitment to exceptional quality ensures that your wall displays will remain as beautifully vibrant as the day they were created, gracing your home for years to come

In this digital age, we recognize the value and convenience of having your portraits readily accessible across various platforms. That's why, at Abby Nelson Photography, we offer a complimentary matching digital file for every portrait you purchase. Whether you want to share your precious moments with loved ones on social media or cherish them in your personal digital collection, you can do so effortlessly with our digital files.

More than a homestead.

Missouri Photographer, capturing life on the homestead.

Life on the homestead holds a great significance for our entire family.

One aspect that stands out in particular is the upbringing of children, who are exposed to a unique opportunity to develop an appreciation for the land, understand the value of hard work, and reap the rewards it brings.
Growing up on a homestead is unlike any other upbringing. Children witness firsthand the dedication and commitment required to maintain and nurture the land. They see their parents tending to crops, nurturing livestock, and engaging in various tasks that contribute to the overall harmony of the homestead. From the earliest age, they learn the value of hard work as an essential and meaningful part of life.

As the seasons change, children become attuned to the cycles of nature. They discover the significance of sowing seeds in the spring and reaping the harvest in the fall. They experience the joy of seeing the fruits of their labor, whether it be a bountiful crop or a well-maintained garden bursting with fresh produce. This tangible outcome of their efforts instills a sense of pride, teaching them that hard work brings tangible rewards.

Beyond the practical benefits, life on the homestead instills a deep appreciation for the land and all it provides. Children learn to cherish the resources that nature bestows upon them, from the fertile soil beneath their feet to the clear water flowing through the streams. They understand the importance of conservation and sustainability, knowing that the land must be cared for in order to continue yielding its blessings.

However, it is not solely the work and the land that shape these young individuals. Life on the homestead also cultivates qualities such as resilience, creativity, and problem-solving. As they face the challenges that naturally arise, children learn to adapt, think critically, and find innovative solutions. This instills in them a sense of independence and confidence, setting them up for success in all aspects of life.

Moreover, the homestead serves as a haven of connection and bonding for the entire family. With the absence of distractions like technology, children engage in meaningful interactions with their parents and siblings. Whether it is gathering around the dinner table to share a meal made from the harvest, or working together to complete a demanding task, these experiences foster a deep sense of unity and allow for strong family bonds to form.

What a blessing it is to capture the moments that unfold on our cherished homestead, preserving the profound impact it has on our child, molding her into a resilient, self-reliant individual with an unwavering appreciation for the beauty of nature and the power of hard work.

Sweet Baby Girl, you are SO loved

Rainbow baby

In a word where so many things seem upside down, this little light brought me so much joy. I immediately connected with her family, and fell in love with this little sweet pea.

She does gain the tittle of largest newborn at Abby Nelson Photography! Those larger babies are defiantly hard for my tiny hands to handle. None the less, her delicacy of her newborn stage was captured perfectly.

For sweet little miss, I opted for a beautiful plum tone. This color was an amazing compliment to her skin tone, and of course I always pair a deep tone, with a neutral for newborns, for a beautiful cohesive gallery.

Motherhood.

The journey to the Motherhood session at Abby Nelson Photography

I often think about the vision I had for my business MANY years ago. I really had it set in my heart and in my mind that I would have this beautiful natural lit studio, with amazing window light, because I had a love for all things raw and organic and NATURAL, and I still do! Many years went by, and I kind of let go of that vision. I went thru a few moves with the studio, I learned studio lighting because I never really found the desired location.

As we all know, a couple of years ago, things for many business owners took a turn, and a lot of us were forced to make decisions. I made the decision to move the studio. This was the toughest move for me yet, I felt like my business was failing.

I didn't know it at the time, but this change was the biggest blessing! In April of 2020, I found my studio, the one I had envisioned years ago. This new change in location really pushed me to refocus my business, and really figure out what aspects of photography I wanted to focus on. With a bit of time, I had a renewed passion for the art, I really started shooting with more purpose.

I have now been in my beautiful, natural lit studio for nearly three years, and I feel like its all come full circle, all in God's perfect time.

One of the very first sessions I held in my beautiful studio was a motherhood session. I really felt like these lifestyle images spoke to my heart, and as a result, I really shot from the heart. These sessions, and the journey to get to the place I’m at now, really impacted a change in direction I didn’t know I needed.

I've held some type of seasonal motherhood session for many years now. It was truly sparked by the birth of my daughter in 2017, I shot my first motherhood session in 2018 and fell in love, I wasn’t where I wanted to be as an artist, but the fire was lit. By 2020 my business evolved and I had grown by leaps and bounds as an artist. I finally landed my dream studio space. It all unfolded in front of me, interest in these sessions really grew, and I added the motherhood session to a year round booking by 2022, and I’ve been blown away by the bookings.

Needless to say, these sessions have a very special place in my heart.

For 2023, I will be offering a limited edition motherhood session for the months of March and April. I'm so honored to continue to capture these amazing moments with you and your children.
